Siege Of Shanghai by Tri5tate Siege Of Shanghai by Tri5tate
I decided to do some fan art for Battlefield 4, since I'm a huge fan of the series and pretty damn excited for the launch in october. I know the map isn't totally looking like the "Siege of Shanghai" map, but it kinda resembles it. I might do another version when I have time, since I still think this one is a little static, the next one will be more fast paced.
Took around 10 hours to do in Photoshop.

Original size: 2560x1600

It is linked in the description and the image is under a CC 3.0 license, but thanks for mentioning :)

Up until purchasing CS6 a few days ago I was dumbfounded as to how these works of art were created, I'd LOVE to see how you do it!

How did you do this? Was it drawn on a pad or manipulated, it's just astonishing!

Thank you! :) It's a photomanipulation / matte painting. Most the stuff here is images put together in one composition, like 60 or more images in total. Then I drew some elements into the picture like the orange bokeh, light streaks, rain, highlights on the soldier and some water splashes. This technique allows you to get greater detail than a drawing (unless you're a drawing god). ;)

I see, thanks for the reply. Where's a good place to get some images, or where to get started. I don't have the cash to purchase stock images sadly, and deviantart doesn't have a lot of images that i've found to be good. Are you able to point me in the right direction? If not, it's all good i understand.

I know, DA doesn't always have the greatest library of stocks but it's still free and sometimes it can really help you out! If you don't have money for stock, try to shoot it yourself instead. Sometimes I could've easily shot the pictures (obviously not a tank or plane) I use in my comps. Sometimes I'm just a little lazy I guess, sometimes I don't have time, sometimes I can't find a good model/wardrobe or whatever it might be. So "not getting the stocks" shouldn't really hold you back, just try to create something that doesn't require so much stocks or like I said, try to shoot it youself. I promise you, there's nothing better to look on a final picture and say "I created every pixel in this image myself". ;)
